Connect Inboxify to ChatGPT or Claude

With the Inboxify MCP server, you can allow an AI assistant such as ChatGPT or Claude to work directly with selected parts of Inboxify. For example, you can ask it to help create a newsletter design or manage contacts, without manually copying data between the two applications.

During setup, you decide which parts of Inboxify the AI assistant can access.

What is the Inboxify MCP server?

MCP stands for Model Context Protocol. It is a standard that allows AI applications to use functions provided by other applications.

With the Inboxify MCP server, an AI assistant can, among other things:

  • view and manage lists and contacts;
  • add, import or update contacts;
  • add or remove tags;
  • unsubscribe or delete contacts;
  • view existing newsletter designs;
  • create and edit newsletter designs;
  • preview a design and save it as a template.

At the moment, campaigns cannot be created, scheduled or sent through the MCP server.

The AI assistant can only use functions for which you granted permission during setup.

Connect Inboxify to ChatGPT

To add the Inboxify MCP server to ChatGPT as a plugin:

  1. Open Settings in ChatGPT.
  2. Go to Security and login and enable Developer mode.
  3. Open ChatGPT Plugins.
  4. Click the plus button to add a new plugin.
  5. Enter https://mcp.inboxify.eu/mcp as the address.
  6. Follow the steps to connect and authorise your Inboxify account.

The exact names and availability of these settings may depend on your ChatGPT plan and workspace. If necessary, consult the current information about ChatGPT developer mode.

Connect Inboxify to Claude

If you use an individual Claude account, add the connection as follows:

  1. In Claude, go to Customize > Connectors.
  2. Click the plus button and select Add custom connector.
  3. Enter a name, such as Inboxify.
  4. Enter https://mcp.inboxify.eu/mcp as the address.
  5. Click Add and then Connect.
  6. Follow the steps to authorise your Inboxify account.

With a Team or Enterprise account, an owner may first need to add the connection through Organization settings > Connectors. Individual users can then connect their own Inboxify account.

If necessary, consult the current Claude documentation.

Sign in to Inboxify

After adding the MCP server, you are redirected to Inboxify. You connect the AI application by signing in with your own Inboxify account.

You do not need to enter an API Key, API Secret or any other technical credentials. Your login details are not shared with the AI assistant.

After signing in, you choose separately how much access to grant to:

  • contacts and lists;
  • newsletter designs.

For both sections, you can choose No access, Read only or Full access. Click Allow to complete the connection.

Limit access

You do not have to give an AI assistant access to every available function. You decide which parts of Inboxify the AI assistant may use through the connection.

For example, you can allow the AI assistant to work with newsletter designs without giving it access to your contacts. This is useful if you want to use the design features but, for GDPR reasons, do not want personal data from your contact lists to be processed by the AI provider.

No access

The AI assistant cannot access the selected section and cannot use any of its related functions.

For example, select No access for Contacts and lists if you only want to use AI to write and design newsletters.

Read only

The AI assistant can view information in the selected section but cannot add, change or delete anything.

For Contacts and lists, the assistant can, for example, view lists and contact details. For Newsletter designs, it can open and analyse existing designs.

Please note: even with Read only access, contact details can be retrieved and processed by the AI provider. This access level prevents the AI assistant from changing data, but it does not prevent the data from being viewed or processed. The GDPR considerations therefore still apply.

Full access

The AI assistant can view and manage information within the selected section.

With full access to Contacts and lists, the assistant can, among other things:

  • view lists and contacts;
  • add, import and update contacts;
  • add and remove tags;
  • unsubscribe or delete contacts;
  • create or delete lists.

With full access to Newsletter designs, the assistant can, among other things:

  • view existing newsletter designs;
  • create new designs;
  • edit designs;
  • upload images;
  • generate a preview;
  • save or delete designs as templates.

Before a consequential action, such as unsubscribing or deleting contacts, you are first shown what will happen and asked to confirm the action.

Which access level should I choose?

Only grant access to the parts of Inboxify you actually want to use with the AI assistant.

If you only want to use AI to write and design newsletters, select, for example:

  • Contacts and lists: No access
  • Newsletter designs: Full access

The AI assistant can then view, create and edit newsletter designs, but it cannot access your contacts. This may be a suitable option if you do not want personal data from your contact lists to be processed by an AI provider.

If you want the AI assistant to view existing contacts without changing anything, select:

  • Contacts and lists: Read only

If you also want the assistant to add, update, tag or unsubscribe contacts, it needs Full access.

> Always choose the lowest access level necessary. Do not give an AI assistant access to contacts unless this is required for the task you want it to perform.

GDPR and the use of AI

⚠️ Please note: When an AI assistant retrieves personal data through the MCP server, that data may also be processed by the selected AI provider.

Not every ChatGPT, Claude or other AI plan is offered under the same business terms. A Data Processing Agreement (DPA) is not available with every plan. Conditions relating to storage, retention periods, model training, sub-processors and international data transfers may differ depending on the provider, plan and settings.

Before granting access to contacts, check, among other things:

  • whether you can enter into an appropriate Data Processing Agreement with the AI provider;
  • the conditions under which data is stored and processed;
  • whether data you enter or retrieve may be used for model training;
  • which retention periods and privacy settings apply;
  • whether the intended use is consistent with your privacy policy and lawful basis for processing.

The terms of AI providers may change. Always consult their current documentation. See, for example, OpenAI's information about business data privacy and Anthropic's information about its Data Processing Agreement.

Inboxify cannot determine whether a particular AI provider, plan or workflow complies with the GDPR in your specific situation. You remain responsible for choosing the AI service, making the appropriate agreements and deciding which data it may process.

If you do not have a suitable plan or appropriate agreements with your AI provider, do not give the AI assistant access to contacts. You can still use the connection exclusively for newsletter designs, provided that you do not include personal data in your instructions or designs.

Use the connection safely

We recommend that you:

  • only grant access to the parts you actually need;
  • make your instructions clear and specific;
  • review changes and previews before saving them;
  • carefully review unsubscribe and delete actions;
  • never include passwords or other login details in conversations;
  • remove the connection when you no longer use it.

Adding the connection does not automatically copy all your Inboxify data to the AI service. Data is only retrieved through the MCP server when the AI assistant uses an available function. The access levels you selected determine which data can be accessed.
