Why DKIM and DMARC Are More Important Than Ever

Major email providers like Gmail and Yahoo tightened their policies in early 2024 to combat spam and spoofing. For senders of newsletters and other bulk email, certain forms of email authentication are now required.

  • DKIM signing is now a strict requirement. Without DKIM, your emails may be flagged as suspicious, routed to the spam folder, or even rejected.
  • For large senders (more than 5,000 messages per day to Gmail or Yahoo), a valid DMARC record is also required. DMARC builds on SPF and DKIM and tells receiving mail servers how to handle failed authentication.

With both DKIM and DMARC, you send a strong signal that your emails are legitimate. You reduce spoofing, improve deliverability, and meet the latest industry standards.

In short: DKIM is no longer just recommended; it is necessary. And if you send at scale, DMARC is essential as well.
